a friend sent me news
of Cowboy Jack’s deathday:
may God receive his soul.
The sort of man who defended this country and our values
(referencing a guitar he bought
“in 1951, when
I was in the Marine Corps”)
and for the sake of whose memory
this country is still worth defending,
whatever betide …
