“Doctor J”


At work, the younger folk have taken to addressing me as “Doc” or “Doctor J”.   I never mention having a Ph.D.; the birth of the expression was spontaneous, apparently in recognition of a certain grizzled wisdom.   It is delightful to hear; as was the typically Middle-Eastern form of address, “Doctorr Devvid”, back when I used to do business with the nations of Arabia.   It’s respectful but friendly; and best of all, it reminds me of my favorite Doctor, the greatest linguist who ever lived:
