Chemistry Porn

Nope -- nothing original to say here ourselves.   But as it is rare indeed for such a subject even to come up, we take the time to link to an excellent article by Robert McHenry, Science vs. PR (“How a piece of journeyman work is turned into patently junk science”).  Our own relatively lazy armchair efforts have been limited to commenting on pop science as it comes out, whereas McHenry here has gone back to the (perfectly respectable) journal source, and traced the steps of its degradation by the media.   And he shows how -- as though pre-corrupted by the media circus -- the scientist himself  unwisely  gave a hostage to fortune -- to Fortuna.
