Minions of Mammon

We have elsewhere noticed the depredations of our contemporary Gordon Geckos.  But we must condemn as well  the degradation of working-class culture, as they attempt to feed upon capitalism’s decomposing corpse, as an enabling factor for these scoundrels.   The scenes on this Black Friday (aptly named, as though Christ were being crucified anew, yet now in Advent) are out of Day of the Locust (1939, Nathaniel West):  yet that was fiction, and these are fact.

For, though plunderers like John D. Rockefeller and Jay Gould were feared in their day, at least they were also despised, by every working man and woman in the land.  Whereas now, one of them has had the effrontery  actually to run for President -- yet walks the streets unhanged. His natural constituency is even now surrounding Walmarts throughout the land -- feral, formless;  unquenchable, undead.
